Q:

What makes herringbone parquet so popular?

We’re deciding between a few flooring layouts and herringbone keeps coming up in design references. What makes it so popular? Is it just a trend or does it have functional advantages too? I’m leaning toward it, but worried it’s more expensive to install or limits your options with furniture placement. Has anyone had this installed in a standard apartment space?

It’s definitely more than a trend. The herringbone layout creates this dynamic sense of depth and direction that really enhances a room. It’s used in both modern and classic interiors. Plus, with professional help, it doesn’t limit furniture at all. We got ours done through wood flooring shop in Edinburgh, and they handled everything from selecting plank sizes to making sure the pattern flowed cleanly into adjacent rooms.

I always thought herringbone was too “fancy” until I saw how versatile it really is. A friend used it in a small flat and it made the space feel bigger and more stylish, not cluttered at all. The pattern kind of leads your eye, so even narrow rooms look more open.
